Sometimes Instagram mistakenly blocks accounts. Not everyone knows they can be restored.
Most blocks are done automatically by Instagram's systems based on signals only their developers know.
What to do if your account is blocked?
First, submit a request via https://help.instagram.com/contact/1652567838289083 and select that your account is not a business. https://help.instagram.com/contact/1652567838289083

Even if the page is for your business, it's better not to say so – otherwise they may ask for documents you don't have.

You'll see a form to fill in.
- Enter your full name
- Username (instagram.com/username)
- Email, preferably the one used to register the account
- Select your country

What happens next?
If things go well, you'll get an email asking you to reply with a photo of you holding a sheet of paper with a code (the code will be in the email) – a selfie with the code.
If you're lucky, Instagram will unblock your account. We recommend changing your password and adding the account to our service (or updating the password). That shows Instagram you care about security and that our service doesn't harm your account.
What can go wrong?
Instagram might still ask for business documents. Or the email might never arrive.
In that case try resubmitting the form or use another form: https://help.instagram.com/contact/606967319425038 https://help.instagram.com/contact/606967319425038

Fill in:
- Full name
- Username
- Phone number
- Comment – describe that you don't know why the account was blocked and that it's not a business account
After that, Instagram often sends a follow-up email; reply in your own words. Sometimes the account is simply unblocked.
Why do accounts get blocked?
Usually for rule violations:
- Buying followers or likes (bots)
- Content that violates copyright
- Adult or explicit content
- Spam in comments or DMs

Update 31.10.2022
Instagram had a major outage; many accounts worldwide were blocked. Instagram acknowledged it:
We're aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram* account. We're looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience. #instagramdown
— Instagram* Comms (@InstagramComms) October 31, 2022
They said the issue was fixed. If your account is still blocked, contact Instagram support.
Log in to Instagram with an account that isn't blocked, then shake your phone to get the support form and describe that the account was blocked by mistake.
We can't guarantee your account will be restored. These are recommendations from our experience.
