1. Mass following and mass liking

This method is still relevant and can bring in leads on a relatively low budget. Yes, limits are much stricter now and it may seem hard to reach the right audience, but with the right approach and filters, results can exceed expectations.

These days mass following and mass liking are less about gaining followers and more about attracting buyers. We're seeing that with modest activity, follower count may not grow much, but sales do. Often a potential customer will buy from you without ever following you.

Even if a client likes your product or service, they may still not follow you. An open conversation in DMs is enough to keep working with them—you can search messages in Direct. So measuring the service only by follower count is no longer the full picture.

When using this type of promotion, it's important to follow a few simple rules: don't log into the same account from many devices, don't like or follow manually while the service is running. You can reply to DMs and comments and watch stories. Following these rules greatly reduces the chance of temporary limits or a block.

If your budget is limited but you need to start somewhere, we recommend this method.

2. Direct message campaigns

This way of attracting followers is getting more popular but riskier in terms of account blocks—a few reports can get your account restricted. Especially if you send the same text with links to external sites. So more people use separate accounts for campaigns. How effective they are depends on the message.

Last year we also added open-conversation campaigns. We feel Instagram is more lenient with these, and we let your clients unsubscribe. This option works well if you have a steady client base and need to announce promos or new products.

We're against spam, including in DMs—campaigns should be creative and messages varied to catch more attention. We still offer different campaign options and don't ban them, but we encourage using them wisely.

3. Giveaways

This way of gaining followers often hurts the account: engagement and reach drop after the giveaway ends. Even "themed" giveaways can affect the account negatively.

Yes, follower count goes up, and even after the giveaway and the drop-off, you'll have more followers than before. But how valuable is that audience long term? In practice, many stay as backup accounts—different name, looks active, but only used for giveaways or to follow accounts they don't want on their main profile.

That audience won't engage with your content or like your posts much, because those users often don't scroll their feed. So the ratio of followers to likes can look off and hurt your account's image.

Whether to join giveaways is up to you. We don't recommend it.

4. Engagement pods

Back in 2020, engagement pods in Instagram took off and more people started using them. But are they as good as their supporters claim?

We think each promotion method has its place at a certain stage. Pods can help at the start when you need some initial followers and likes on your first posts. Keep the level consistent—don't overdo it or your reach may drop later.

Be active on both photos and video (stories, lives). If you have 50 likes on a post but 7 story views, Instagram's algorithm can tell the engagement is inflated. In that case you're unlikely to rank well.

You can add some pod activity, but use it in moderation.

5. Paid ads (targeting)

Paid targeting stays effective when set up well and with a solid budget. But not everyone wants to learn it or can afford a specialist or agency. Not all niches are allowed for ads, and an ad account can be blocked later—so the spend can be lost.

If your budget is tight, try setting up ads yourself, ideally via Facebook for more flexibility. There are plenty of free guides and videos; free content often beats expensive courses that repeat the same things.

When other methods bring fewer leads, you'll eventually turn to ads. You need enough budget and possibly a specialist. If you do it yourself, in time you may become that specialist.

Targeting works, but it's expensive. Think twice before spending your last funds—there are cheaper ways to grow, especially at the start.

Content for Instagram promotion

1. Entertainment content

Take entertainment accounts: bloggers, artists, musicians, meme pages. For them, promoting their Instagram is about growing their follower count as much as possible.

Their goal is to draw people to their content, which should be high quality and shareable. Their income comes from content that gets views—native ads and sponsored posts for brands.

What matters for these creators is having an active audience that likes, comments, and shares.

2. Business content

For business accounts, promoting on Instagram is about commercial results. Instagram is another channel to reach buyers for online stores and clients for services.

For business, a large follower count matters less than a loyal, targeted audience. An account with 10,000 followers and 100 potential buyers means the other 9,900 add little value.

In practice, people often buy or order via Instagram without following the account. So the aim is to reach people interested in your niche who can become customers and bring in revenue.

In short: promote sensibly, attract real and active audiences, and don't inflate followers with bots—it doesn't help. With our service you can bring a real audience to your account.
